Brief History

The Holy Rosary Hospital’s College of Nursing Emekuku is a training institution for students, located at Emekuku in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. It was established in 1932 by the
Irish Catholic Missionaries of the Holy Rosary Sister’s Congregation under the auspices of Bishop Shanahan, an Irish Missionary now of Blessed memory. The school formally gained recognition and approval for the training of nurses by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for the first
time in the year 1953 under the stewardship of Rev. Sr. Mary Aquin, the first Principal and her assistant Rev. Sis. Mary Thomas Moore. Later, the school rose to the level of culmination of its recognition in 1963 by the Nursing Council of England and Wales for the SRN (State Registered Nursing). Later the school was accorded a full recognition by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in 1965.
Since then, the school had maintained its quality standard in training of students both morally and academically which is evidently seen in the distinguished way which the school creditably participated among its equals in areas of academics, sports, debates, speech, culture, contests and external exams organized by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other
bodies.
Since its establishment, the school has thrived under the proprietorship of three good men of great repute, Bishop Mark Unegbu of Blessed Memory (1970-2003), Arch Bishop A.J.V. Obinna (2003-2022) and the present
proprietor Most Rev. Iwejuru Lucius Ugorji (2022 till date).
The school has also grown under the directorship of different executives, but in the recent past years, it’s been Rev .Fr .Dr. Justin Mbonu, Rev. Sr. Rosaline
Emeribe, Rev. Fr. Ugoamadi, Rev. Fr. Eunan Asomugha (2006-2015), Rev. Fr.
Jude Godwin (2015-2019), and presently, Rev. Father Justin Okoro (2019 till
date).
The school has recorded its successes and growth under different principals in the past, but most recently in the person of Mrs. Nodi Bernadine, Mrs. Christiana Nwaogugwu and presently Rev. Sr. Mary Roseflora Ekperinwa.
For the past years till date, the school has prodigiously recorded good and excellent percentage of successes in the general council exams of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. She has produced well trained and
qualified nurses rendering their services all over the world.

The school runs a three years program. Each candidate must have at least five credits which must include: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
