Brief History

The school of Medical laboratory Science, Holy Rosary Hospital Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State, is one of the oldest schools of Laboratory Assistant/Technicians in the East of Nigeria. The school was established before the Nigeria-Biafra civil war in 1960. When the war eventually broke out, the school suffered a major setback consequent to the effect of the war. In the early 70’s, the hospital authority at that time, demonstrated courage and started the school once again.

Sequel to this, the school got approval and recognition to train Medical Laboratory Assistants in 1974. This is again followed by re-accreditation, re-approval and re-appraisal of the then facilities and staff.

In July 11th, 2011, the school embarked on another round of Accreditation to upgrade the school to train Medical Laboratory Technicians. The accreditation was successful to train Medical Laboratory Technicians. Because of the need for proper educational status, the management once again embarked to get full accreditation from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) on the 19th of November, 2013. Our school is fully qualified for training.

The school runs a three years program. Each candidate must have at least five credits which must include: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
